How can I access an NHS Dentist in an Emergency or Out of Hours?
If you need dental treatment in an emergency, please do not contact your GP practice as they will not be able to offer emergency or out-of-hours dental care.
- Call a dentist: some surgeries offer appointments at short notice
- If you do not have a dentist, find one using NHS 111
Patients with dental trauma will go through to an on-call trauma dentist who link in with the A&E department to deal with the trauma. For severe urgent cases patients will be provided with the details of 3 local dentists who should have capacity to see patients. If they do not, the patient should contact 111 again.
For less urgent or routine dental cases the patients will be advised to call local dental practices until they find one who has availability for an appointment.
Should you be unable to find an appointment at a dentist, having called all accessible dentists, please contact NHSE (NHS England), Telephone: 0300 311 2233 who will be able to assist you to find a dentist.
